Can I have my own "look and feel" using FrontSQL?
Yes. FrontSQL is completely flexible with regard to your site design and look. It includes a set of standardised templates which you can modify to match your design requirements, or you can let your design team have full reign.
What sort of site structure can I have with FrontSQL?
For the publication content itself, FrontSQL has an overall structure which follows an Issue, Department, Article approach, but this can be flexibly adapted to meet individual publication structures as desired. Other site content can be organised as you require.
How fast is the search system and what sort of capabilities does it offer?
Very fast. It can handle up to 10 independent searches per second on a mid-range server, typically producing results in less than 200ms. It includes full text and date-based searching, keyword conditions (AND, OR, NEAR), ranked results and options to provide more information.
Can FrontSQL help with any design issues?
You can start from a standardised set of templates which are included with FrontSQL, and modify these to produce a site which matches your design requirements.
What systems can FrontSQL convert into HTML?
FrontSQL has a public XML-based import format, permitting content from any source to be pre-converted for importing into the system. In addition, it can directly import HTML documents exported by common publishing tools such as as Word or Pagemaker, or dedicated third-party converters available for more advanced DTP tools, such as Quark or Ventura Publisher. The FrontSQL Pro scripting system also allows custom import filters to be created to customize the import process.
How long does it take to convert material?
Automated conversion can usually process an entire issue in seconds, with minor differences depending on the conversion tool in use. Depending on the quality of the external publication-to-HTML conversion, or the custom import filter handling the same process, some manual editing may be required to complete the conversion process.
How much control do I have over the details of conversion?
This largely depends on the tools being used in the conversion step, as some of them offer more control and configurability than others. Of course, once the conversion stage has been completed, FrontSQL allows you full access to preview or modify the resulting HTML at will, or even create new articles.
